It’s like running against time to meet deadlines on a war-footing. Come what may, they have to release water for residents of Gajwel, Dubbak and Siddipet constituencies on April 30, a promise made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

As many as 100 labourers are working in two shifts to construct 2.2 crore litre capacity sump house from which water will be pumped to other places in this village located adjacent to Rajiv Rahadari. If there are any other works, another 50 workers are roped in and the work stretches for the third shift. The activity starts early in the morning and ends late in the evening. The excavation work has already commenced.

About 50 kilometres away from this place at Komatibanda in Gajwel mandal, construction of a balancing reservoir with a capacity of 1.4 crore litres, two over-head tanks with a capacity of 1.5 lakh litres and 5.5 lakh litres, is already on in addition to a pump house. Here, about 150 labourers are working in two shifts and 50 more are roped in whenever concrete work is underway.

Huge pipes, thousands in number, are already in place at road sides in Gajwel, Siddipet and Dubbak areas. As the promise was made by the Chief Minister, senior officials from Hyderabad, in addition to Collector D. Ronald Rose, are closely monitoring and reviewing works regularly.

Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan, who visited saw the work sites, in addition to the ones in Warangal and Ranga Reddy, expressed complete satisfaction over the progress of works.

“The works are moving fast and we are trying to meet the deadlines without fail. This will change the face of villages and there will be no drinking water problem,” said Vijay Prakash, Superintendent Engineer, Mission Bhagiratha.
