The government aims to make villages self-sufficient by strengthening caste-based occupations through its schemes, Minister for Energy and SC Development G. Jagadish Reddy said.
The approach was sure to deliver comprehensive results, the Minister said after releasing batches of fish seed into the Musi project along with district officials on Thursday.
Releasing fish seed was intended to help fish farmers for whom livelihood prospects have become uncertain in recent times, he said.
Inclusive development
Citing estimates of the Fisheries Department, Mr. Reddy said 209 village tanks have been identified in which fish seed would be released soon. “One lakh fish seed would be released in each tank and some 13 lakh fish seed in the Musi project,” he said. The State was bringing everyone into the fold of welfare and development, with one or the other available scheme, he added.
Poor maintenance
Later, he reviewed with district officials the Musi project. The earlier governments had failed to maintain the Musi project, which would have been a boon to the farmers in the command area. “After the TRS came to power, ₹19 crore was spent to replace and repair project gates, and ₹65.56 crore was sanctioned by the Chief Minister for renovation of the left and right bank canals,” Mr. Reddy said.
The SC Development Minister inaugurated desiltation works on the D-5 canal site, and promised that the work would be completed within 15 days — to be able to irrigate about 1,100 acres for the second crop.
