Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said journalism was a noble profession and society respects media when it honestly exposes the misdeeds of leaders or governments and makes sound suggestions in solving the problems faced by people.
Releasing the copies of newly-launched daily ‘Nava Telangana’ here on Saturday evening, the Minister said that those newspapers and channels that win the hearts of the people would survive in the competitive market.
Wishing all the best to the newspaper management, he said the State government would extend all possible assistance for its promotion as media was the fourth estate and had a key role in any democratic dispensation. “You are the regular interface between the people and the government. In the absence of the media, it’s hard for people at the helm of the affairs to have a closer look at public issues. Therefore, you [media] are our real friend,” he said. ZP Chairman Dafedar Raju and Mayor Akula Sujatha appealed to the media not to resort to sensationalism and only report facts.
Zaheerabad MP B.B. Patil, MLC V.G. Goud, CPI (M) district secretary Dandi Venkati and CPI (ML)-New Democracy leader V. Prabhakar also spoke.
