Mild tension at BILT unit

March 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - WARANGAL:

Miscreants set ablaze a tent in which leaders of various trade unions were undertaking a relay hunger strike at Kamalapur in Mangapet mandal demanding reopening of Ballarpur Industrict Limited (BILT) unit.

The leaders and workers staged a massive demonstration protesting against the incident on Burgampadu- Eturunagaram thoroughfare on Sunday. They were on relay hunger strike for the past 21 days urging the management to reopen the unit and seeking State government’s intervention. They urged the police to arrest those responsible for burning the tent. The BILT management had shut down its unit that manufactured pulp used for paper and garment making in April 2014 stating that it was incurring losses. However, the government directed the management not to close it down.
