A young tribal Maoist recruit from Somwarpet Kolamguda in Khanapur mandal, Sidam Laxman, on Saturday surrendered before the district police after spending over two months with an underground dalam.
The 25-year-old Kolam adivasi was mislead by Maoists who promised him a salary of Rs. 20,000 per month and a ‘decent’ living in the jungles following which he joined the dalam in July this year.
Producing the naxalite at a press conference, Adilabad Superintendent of Police Gajarao Bhupal said the youngster was taken to Mangi area after intoxication.
He was introduced to Maoists and dalam leaders Atram Shobhan alias Charles and Jyotakka.
Laxman was present with the dalam which was involved in two exchanges of fire in the district, first on July 31 in Kurregadh forest, and second on September 14 in Pangidi Madaram forests of Tiryani mandal.
Apparently scared of the events, he walked out of the dalam and surrendered.
Mr. Bhupal said there are many more extremists waiting for a chance to surrender as they are vexed with their lives in the jungles. He appealed to them to lay down arms without fear.
