Fifty-two year old Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chary of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) was unanimously as the first Speaker of Telangana Assembly on Tuesday.
Mr. Chary representing Bhupalpalli Assembly constituency in Warangal district was cordially escorted to the Speaker’s chair as the House met for the second day by Chief Minister K. Chandraskhara Rao and other opposition leaders.
Protem Speaker K. Jana Reddy congratulated Mr. Chary and invited him to occupy the Speaker’s chair and run the House. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said the contribution of Mr. Chary was immense. From the day of the launch of movement by the TRS, Mr. Chary has been firmly behind every activity, he said promising to extend full cooperation in the smooth functioning of the House.
Congress leaders D.S.Redya Naik, BJP MLA G.Kishan Reddy, TDP member Revanth Reddy, Minister Jagadish Reddy and others complimented the Speaker.
A post-graduate in English Literature from Kakatiya University, Mr. Chary was born in Narsakkapalli village in Parkal mandal of Warngal. He was elected for the first time to the united Andhra Pradesh MLA on TDP ticket in 1994 from Shayampet Assembly constituency.
From the inception of the TRS in 2001, Mr. Chary was one of the founding members and held the post of politburo member till he was elected as an MLA from Bhupalpally in the recent Assembly elections. He defeated Congress Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy.
The TRS has not yet finalized the candidate for the Deputy Speaker post although name of TRS MLA from Medak Padma Devender Reddy’s name is under consideration.
Meanwhile, Telangana Governor E.S.L.Narasimhan will address the joint session of the Legislature on Wednesday.
