A leopard was found dead hanging from an electric pole on the peripherals of a forest just outside Gandhinagar in Nizamabad, Telangana, on Monday. It seemed to have been electrocuted.

District Forest Officer V.S.V. Prasad ruled out any foul play behind the leopard's death. “Poachers generally kill tigers, and not leopards, for their nails. Leopards know how to climb trees and poles. It must have come in contact with the live wires after climbing the pole. But the exact reason for its venture is not yet known,” he said.

The incident must have occurred in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. After post mortem, the carcass would be buried, he said.
