Leaving nothing to chance

ith the State government having decided to take up the prestigious Kaleshwaram project at Medigadda in the interior Mahadevpur mandal across the river Godavari, the State police machinery has decided to leave nothing to chance in ensuring the smooth construction of the major irrigation projects in the region.

As the Medigadda project site is located on land adjoining Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, and with the suspected movement of Maoists along the shores, the police have decided to avoid intrusion of naxalites from the neighbouring States into Karimnagar district and obstruct the development works. Accordingly, they have decided to open two new police stations in the region at Ambetpalli (near Medigadda project) and Kaleshwaram temple shrine – both in Mahadevpur mandal along the shores of the Godavari adjoining the neighbouring States.

Before the construction of the police station in Ambetpalli (Medigadda), which is very close to the project site, the police had decided to open an outpost in the village by deploying civil and paramilitary forces.

It was also decided to construct a permanent helipad at the project site for the movement of VVIPs and also police forces during emergencies to meet any eventuality. It was decided to upgrade the Mahadevpur police station into a circle station, and Kataram circle station into a sub-divisional police office for effective policing and taking up more development activities, such as construction of barrages across the river at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla villages.

A week ago, DGP Anurag Sharma, IG (intelligence) Shivadhar Reddy, Warangal range IG Naveen Chand and other officials conducted an aerial survey in the region for the opening up of police stations and reviewed security arrangements for Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s visit to the project site.

As there is every possibility of naxalite movement from the adjoining States and threat to the construction of the project, the police have decided to open police stations along the bordering villages to protect the project as well as check intrusion of naxalites and also weed them out from the region by taking up joint combing operations with the neighbouring States.

The police station at Kaleshwaram temple shrine is the need of the hour as the inter-State bridge across the river Godavari was nearing completion and would be declared open soon, connecting Telangana with Maharashtra.
