The last rites of Banoth Rambabu who died in the Beas river tragedy in Himachal Pradesh were performed at his native village of Beekya Tanda of Mothey mandal in Nalgonda district on Tuesday.
Survivor Gajjala Kethan Kumar from Nakerkal attended the ceremony.
The parents of Rambabu, Bujji and Shekar Nayak were inconsolable on seeing Kethan.
A large number of villagers and politicians including Congress leader Ramreddy Damodar Reddy, Kodad MLA N. Padmavathi were present.
villager, S. Krishna has said that they were still not in state to believe the death of the young boy.
“We all were expecting Rambabau along with his elder brother Nagaraju who is studying engineering third year in IIT-Raipur, would bring laurels to our village by reaching greater positions and we are in a shock, said a villager.“Many parents in the village used to ask their wards to draw inspiration from these two poor tribal boys who have been performing exceptionally well in studies since their childhood defying the hurdles created by poverty, another villager said.
Rambabu’s father Shekar Nayak, who is a night watchman by profession, said he and his wife Bujji used to work relentlessly for their education to ensure that they reached better position in life and not lead a life like us.
