The district officials have decided to exclude five of the 33 Pushkar ghats initially identified for Krishna Pushkaralu in the district, since police and irrigation authorities have expressed concern over difficulties in traffic regulation and also the depth of the river at these ghats.

District Collector P. Satyanarayana Reddy held a review meeting with the officials of Police, Irrigation, R&B and Panchyat Raj officials here on Thursday to discuss the proposed Pushkar ghats. Speaking to The Hindu , an officer who attended the meeting said the Collector decided to reduce the number of bathing ghats to 28. Taking the observations of the Police Department into consideration, the source said the Collector agreed to cancel the Palka Tanda Ghat of Peddavoora mandal as it was found that the regulation of traffic would be difficult in this area. The R&B officials said laying of new roads would also be not feasible to this small village. Following the suggestion of the Irrigation officials, Mr. Reddy reportedly decided to exclude Ganeshpahad Tanda and Nagarjunasagar Tail Pond of Damarcherla mandal, Amaravaram of Mattampally mandal from the proposed list. The irrigation officials observed that the water runs too deep at these two points, which might lead to some untoward incident.

One more place was excluded from the proposed list on similar grounds. Meanwhile, the Collector asked all the departments to come up with revised proposals by Monday.
