Warangal city, the biggest after Hyderabad in Telangana, will witness unprecedented development with the State government planning facilities for 20 lakh population soon, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Winding up his four-day tour to the district here on Sunday, he told the media that as part of ‘Plan our Warangal’ programme, well-planned vegetable, fruit, meat and fish markets, housing for poor in slums, playgrounds and public spaces would be set up. “I have asked the Collector to list out litigation-free government land and how it can be utilised for creating public facilities.

“Ground plus one-floor housing is being planned to accommodate slum dwellers, he said and promised to make Warangal a textile hub. Nearly four lakh to five lakh people are working in Surat and Bhiwandi. They are all skilled labourers and might come to Warangal once the textile industry comes up here,” the Chief Minister said.

Other plans for Warangal include shifting of existing Central Jail and relocation of IT companies from Hyderabad to Warangal, construction of modern buildings for Health University and upgradation of MGM Hospital.

Mr. Rao said the government has plans for irrigating nearly 10 lakh acres of land in Warangal district, by revamping Kanthanpalli and Devadula projects and also by bringing the Krishna waters to Pakhala canal.

Referring to the ongoing agitation for fee reimbursement, the Chief Minister said there was no need for any apprehension.

“Irregularities have crept into the scheme and some colleges have come up only to gobble the fee reimbursement amount. One lecturer is being shown as working in nine colleges. Once inspection is over, all students will get their fee reimbursed,” he explained.

CM promises golden crown to deity

Chief Minister has said that the State government would present a golden crown to the presiding deity Bhadrakali at the historic temple here. Mr. Rao and his family members visited the temple here on Sunday. The temple officials and trustee Seshu apprised him of various development plans for the temple. They wanted the government to develop the tank abutting the temple on the lines of Tank Bund at Hyderabad. Construction of boarding facility to pilgrims, toilets, drinking water facility, a street around the temple, widening of road leading to the temple and a Maharaja Gopuram, similar on the lines existing at Madurai temple among others.
