Member of Parliament Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday promised to ensure an all-round development of Telangana University and came out with some concrete plans for the purpose.

She said that the university needs to be developed into a centre of excellence in the field of higher education and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chicago State University was the first step in that direction. She was interacting with the university faculty team led by Registrar R. Limbadri.

The MP said that she was ready to facilitate more MoUs with other US-based universities to catapult the Telangana University into the league of international universities.

Faculty exchange

She particularly mentioned the universities such as Ohio and Princeton for the purpose. “Students and faculty exchange programmes and common curriculum development will form part of the MoUs,” she added.

Elaborating on her plans for the varsity, Ms. Kavitha said that it was time the university had self-sustainability in its power needs and for that it should go for the establishment of non-conventional energy sources such as solar, wind and biomass power generation.

Referring to the necessity of launching non-traditional courses, she said that an engineering college needs to be opened in the campus to offer unique courses.

Stresses R&D centres

The MP highlighted the need for setting up R&D centres with reputed pharmacy companies to give an early exposure to students and ensure their placement after their studies.

She stated that she had plans for providing round-the-clock power supply, internet facility and drinking water facility with the SRSP’s dedicated pipelines for the benefit of students. Beautification of the campus, construction of a science block, laying of internal roads, and turning it into a green campus were some of the other plans that she had in mind for the university located in her constituency.

Science Dean Y. Jaya Prakash Rao, faculty members P. Nagaraju, M. Praveen, P. Srinivas, Prasanna Rani and Samatha were among those who met the MP.

The Registrar and other faculty members felicitated the MP for helping the varsity ink an MoU with the Chicago State University.
