In a unique mode of protest students of Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) - B.Sc. Animation are teaching their juniors on the streets after boycotting classes demanding better faculty and facilities in the laboratory.
The JNAFAU is the only university in the Telangana State that offers B.Sc (Animation) at the undergraduate level apart from giving affiliation to private institutes to offer the same.
Students allege that all the faculty members are not qualified and they teach in Telugu instead of English thus making it difficult for non-Telugu-speaking students to understand. "When we question they threaten us citing the internal marks that are given by them," said Ale Mayank, a second year student.
They also alleged that the software was pirated and just 30 computers for a class of 60 do not suffice. "We had just five computers earlier and the remaining 25 were added after student went on agitation," he added.
Students also alleged that though some batches had passed out so far the varsity had failed to give them the certificates. "There are no campus recruitments in Animation while all other Fine Arts courses have campus selections," said Akshay Kumar, a student who has come from Adilabad to pursue the course.
After students threatened to intensify the agitation, the varsity formed a committee to look into their demands, but students said the committee members were only threatening them rather than discussing the issues raised by them.
Meanwhile, University authorities are discussing the issue internally and they were likely to come out with a solution to satisfy the students and bring them back to classrooms.
