‘Ankurarpanam’ and other initiatory rituals were performed at the historic Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple here on Thursday evening signalling the beginning of the annual ‘Jeshtabhishekam’ ceremony.

The ritual is performed with an intention to invoke ‘divine blessings’ of the temple deity for bountiful of rains and bumper harvest in the monsoon season ahead.

Special Kalasabhishekam, purnahuti, Tiruveedhi seva and other sacred rituals will be conducted on the second day of Jeshtabhishekam on Friday, temple sources said.

Eruvaka

A sizeable number of farmers are expected to throng the temple on Friday to participate in Jeshtabhishekam main ceremony to be held in the historic shrine.

Traditionally the ceremony coincides with the Eruvaka Pournami festivities, considered auspicious by the farmers to commence farming operations.

A glittering Swarna Kavacham (golden armour), recently donated by a Bengaluru-based couple to the temple, is likely to be adorned to the presiding deity of the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple on Friday, according to temple sources.

The temple authorities were planning to make the Swarna Kavacham adorn the presiding deity Lord Sitaramachandra a part of the regular weekly ritual.

The presiding deity will be adorned with the Swarna Kavacham every Friday henceforth, temple sources said.
