Jagan, 10 others appear in court

YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy along with several other accused in the 10 quid pro quo investments cases appeared in the Principal Special Court for CBI Cases here on Monday.

Former Ministers Mopidevi Venkataramana, Dharmana Prasada Rao and P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Mr. Jagan’s financial advisor V. Vijay Sai Reddy, IAS officers, including B.P. Acharya and several industrialists, appeared in the court.

However, India Cements Ltd Managing Director N. Srinivasan, former Minister J. Geetha Reddy, ailing IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi did not attend court citing different reasons. Their legal counsel filed memos in this regard.

The court was likely to take up hearing on the process of framing of charges but it did not happen. Judge N. Balayogi posted all the cases to August 11.

IAS officer files discharge plea

Meanwhile, a discharge petition was filed on behalf of IAS officer B. Sam Bob, who is an accused in the Lepakshi Knowledge Hub (LKH) case, requesting the court to remove his name from the list of accused. He explained in his petition that though he was among the officers who dealt with LKH, he did not commit any mistake or violated any business rule. He informed the court that the unified AP Government had recommended to the Centre not to accord permission for his prosecution under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Director of Hetero Drugs Srinivasa Reddy, who is an accused in the pharmaceutical companies’ aspect of the quid pro quo cases, also filed a discharge petition requesting the court to remove his name from the list of accused explaining that he was not involved in any corrupt practice.

Hearing of the illegal mining case against Obulampuram Mining Company (OMC) was also postponed to August 11 by the court. Two of the accused -- B.V. Srinivasa Reddy and K. Mehfuz Ali Khan -- were produced through video linkage, while the Chanchalguda prison authorities informed the court that the prime accused, Gali Janardhan Reddy, was admitted to a hospital in Bangalore.
