A rousing reception was accorded here on Thursday to the team that climbed Mount Kilimanjaro on August 14 and returned home.

“It’s a proud movement in our lives. We could not have achieved it without the active support of Collector D. Ronald Rose and other senior officials from the district. Its lifetime experience and we are thankful to all who supported us in this challenging task,” said Gamani Narsamma, a student from the Kasturba Gandhi Balikya Vidyalay (KGBV) from Kulcharam in Medak district, who was one among those who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, a day before the 70th Independence Day.

She is just 12-years-old and the youngest in the 21-member team that went to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in South Africa as part of an expedition. The team consisted of nine-members from the KGBVs of Medak district. They were taken in open-top jeeps to the Collectorate. Standing all along the road with huge National Flags, students welcomed the team. Crackers were burst all through their journey.

All the students were in a joyful mood and were greeted by all with warmth. Collector D. Ronald Rose, Joint Collector P. Venkataram Reddy, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Project Director Yasmin Basha and others felicitated the students on a grand scale.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ronald said these types of expeditions would increase confidence among students and make them reach new heights in life.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao congratulated the students for their achievement and wished them all the best in future.
