The simmering internal bickering in the Congress district unit resurfaced when the members of two rival groups of the party jostled at a meeting organised by the Youth Congress local wing in the district headquarters town on Tuesday. Sources said that the trouble broke out after the party activists loyal to former minister Vanama Venkateswara Rao almost came to blows with the supporters of the town-based Congress leader Yadavalli Krishna at the venue of the Youth Congress meeting in the afternoon. An altercation ensued between the members of the two rival groups minutes before the meeting, which ended in fisticuffs, sources added.

Some media personnel covering the event were caught in the mele. They resented the alleged unruly behaviour of a group of Congress leaders at the venue of the meeting.
