Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said that he had ordered action against land encroachments and 58,000 illegal constructions were identified in Hyderabad by the government.
In his two-and-a-half hour address to Ministers, advisors to government and nearly 250 officers from various parts of Telangana here on Monday, Mr. Rao maintained that there was need to regulate illegal constructions not only in Hyderabad, but entire Telangana. Such constructions, which destroyed a number of lakes were a curse on Hyderabad, as they depleted the groundwater table.
He regretted reclamation of land of Hussainsagar and Musi and said the reputation of the latter as a natural drain of Hyderabad was also lost in the process.
Mr. Rao stressed the need for two more airports for Hyderabad – one near Shamirpet and Jawaharnagar, and the other between Ghatkesar and Keesara – to clear air traffic in view of the likely increase in the population of city up to 3.5 crore after setting up an Information Technology Investment Region.
He also felt the need for another Outer Ring Road (ORR) beyond the existing one to decongest traffic in the city.
About 20 garbage dumping yards with an area of 2,000 to 3,000 acres were required to clear waste.
Stating that the government would not compromise on law and order, he regretted that a major IT company slipped out of the capital following the bomb blast at Dilsukhnagar more than a year ago.
