Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday said the NDA government would table the IIM Bill in the ensuing winter session of Parliament.

After laying the foundation stone for IIM-Visakhapatnam here at Gambheeram, she complimented Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for being the first to begin work on the IIM-V among the six approved by the Centre in various States.

The intake capacity of 13 IIMs, which is now 3,335, is expected to go up and cross the 4,000-mark if the six new institutions start functioning from 2015-16. CAT-2014 website says the registration option is allowed for six new IIMs, as they are likely to commence the academic session from 2015-16.

Stating that empowerment of people is the Prime Minister’s dream, she said Mr. Naidu was keen on taking AP to greater heights and hoped that the IIM Bill would see a smooth passage in both the Houses.

Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu said people had given a decisive mandate to the BJP-led NDA for an “able leadership and stable government” and came down heavily on the Opposition for indulging in opportunistic politics.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to develop Visakhapatnam into a world-class city, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) and Sarala Birla International School would be opened in the city.

Predicting a bright future for Visakhapatnam, the Chief Minister said the government was making efforts to showcase ‘Destination Visakhapatnam’ at various fora to attract investments. He added that it would be transformed into a smart city with the support of the United States.

Mr. Naidu listed out his government’s efforts to promote skill development. “We have set up a Skill Development Corporation, and we are in the process of establishing a skill development university,” he declared.

Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, State HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, State Ministers Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, Kammineni Srinivas, K. Atchan Naidu, MPs K. Haribabu, T. Subbarami Reddy and M. Srinivasa Rao were present.
