Huge response to voters day

Backward Classes Welfare and Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna on Sunday flagged off a rally of college students to mark the 5th National Voters Day celebrations at DIET grounds here. The rally converged into a public meeting at Revenue garden function hall where Collector M. Jagan Mohan and others addressed it.

The Collector administered oath to the students at the Collectorate Chowk where the latter had formed a human chain as part of the awareness campaign on enrolment of all eligible persons as voters.

The students vowed to vote without fear and ignore all kinds of inducements.

Mr. Jagan Mohan informed the gathering that 10,000 new voters have been added to the rolls in the recent months taking the total of number of voters in the district to 19,71,210.

Names of over 1 lakh ineligible voters have been deleted from the electoral rolls, he added.

Call for enrolment

The voter plays a crucial role in the construction of strong democracy and the country’s progress lies in the vote, opined Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad. Participating in the National Voters day celebrations in Karimnagar on Sunday, the Collector said that the enrolment process would be held every year and added that booth level officials would be visiting each and every household to enrol the fresh voters.

Stating that the country should have four per cent of young voters, she said that the Karimnagar district was having only 1.5 per cent young voters enrolled.

She said that they would take all measures to enrol the young voters in the district. Superintendent of Police V Shiva Kumar called upon the youth to exercise their franchise by enrolling themselves as the voters.

Earlier, the Collector flagged off a rally from the Government Arts College grounds to the Collectorate. She also administered pledge to the youth on the importance of vote and distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions.

Assistant Collector Advait Singh, DRO Veerabrahmaiah, DEO K Lingaiah, DSDO Satyavani, RDO Chandrashekhar were among those present.

‘Nizamabad first in enrolment’

Nizamabad Special Correspondent adds: Impressive procession attended by the NCC Cadets, oath taking by police, personnel of civil administration and civilians and also cultural programmes presented by school children marked the 5th National Voters Day celebrations here on Sunday.

Administering the oath to people at the Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium the Collector D. Ronald Ross said that right to vote was an important right in democracy and therefore every adult who got vote should utilize it properly. Joint Collector A. Ravinder Reddy said that the district ranked first in respect of voters enrolment and therefore it should also become first in casting votes also.

Additional Joint Collector P. Seshadri, District Revenue Officer Manoher and RDO Yadi Reddy also participated.

Sangaredddy Staff Reporter adds: Collector Rahul Bojja called upon people to get registered as voters without fail. Addressing a gathering while participating in the 5th National Voters Day programme held at Collectorate on Sunday, Mr. Rahul said that voters can register themselves online and changes can also be done on the website without any problem.

Superintendent of Police B. Sumathi said that voter is the key in strengthening the democracy the number of voters has been increasing as the awareness has been increased.

Epic cards were issued for the newly registered voters. Earlier in the day, a rally was held in the town in connection with the programme.
