The Human Rights Forum on Sunday elected two separate committees for its Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh units on at the second day of the 7th conference for both the States which ended at Mancherial town. The conference attended by 392 delegates also adopted 15 resolutions making certain crucial demands.
G. Madhav Rao of Nizamabad district and G. Mohan of Nalgonda district were elected president and general secretary for the Telangana unit in addition to four vice-presidents and secretaries.
For Andhra Pradesh, U.G. Srinivasulu of Adoni was elected the president while K. Sudha was elected vice-president, besides four vice-presidents and secretaries.
In a press release, current HRF President S. Jeevan Kumar and General Secretary V.S. Krishna condemned the rise of Hindu fascism in the country.
Major demands in the 15-point resolution are related to immediate suspension of open cast coal mining in Telangana and paying of compensation to the families of farmers who have committed suicide.
The conference also condemned the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru. It demanded lifting of cases against innocent Adivasis with regard to recent Jodeghat incident.
