Four persons died after heavy rain lashed Medak district on Friday.

Kalavathi, 35, and Tulasi, 8, died when the house they were residing in collapsed. In another incident, 60-year-old Shamamma died after a wall collapsed at Mubarakpur in Sadashivapet mandal. N. Swamy, 45, was washed away at Kongur in Kulcharam mandal while trying to save his son. The son, however, managed to survive.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, who rushed to Sangareddy to review the situation along with Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy, announced Rs. 4 lakh ex-gratia each to the families of the four persons who died.

The district registered an average rainfall of 10.3 cm on Friday, with Chinnashankarampet receiving 21.1 cm rainfall and Kangti receiving 16.5 cm. Kalher received 15 cm rainfall, Gawjel received 14.5 cm, Shivampet at 14.3 cm, Toopran at 14 cm, Toguta at 13, and Sangareddy receiving 10 cm rainfall.

Flood control room was set up at the Collectorate office with the helpline number 08455-272525 to address any eventuality.

Mr. Rao visited the district and held a review meeting with the officials on the prevailing situation, and directed them to take necessary steps immediately. Collector D. Ronald Rose declared a holiday for schools.

About 20-old tiled houses collapsed due to the rain at Nizampet in Ramayampet mandal. One Bitla Naik was stuck in a stream at Medak mandal Vadi.

The Irrigation Minister called for the National Disaster Management Agency to rescue him.

The traffic between Narsapur and Sangareddy came to standstill, as a vehicle was stuck at Balpanur vagu. The road connectivity between Medak and Chinnashankarampet was hit as the road was washed away. Road between Siddipet and Hanamkonda was also cut off as water overflowed at Baswapur.

Two gates were lifted at Manjeera and Narinja to release water reaching the reservoir.

The water level at Singur reached 521.8 metres against the total capacity of 523.6 metres, and the present storage level was at 21 tmfct against the complete storage capacity 29.9 tmcft. While inflow is 67,250 cusecs, the outflow was pegged at 117 cusecs. It was expected that Singoor would reach its full tank level by Saturday evening.
