The Telangana government would be issuing health cards to all the folk artists in the State before Deepavali, said K.V. Ramana Chary, Advisor (Culture) to Telangana Government, here on Thursday.
Speaking at the valedictory of the 10-day Janapada Jathara held at Ravindra Bharathi here, Dr. Chary said the jathara was organised in connection with the World Folklore Day on August 22. Celebrated folk art forms were presented in all the 31 districts during the jathara, he said. After the formation of Telangana State, the government has been encouraging folk artists and has ensured that the folk art forms got their due recognition.
Mamidi Harikrishna, Director (Culture), said folk artists were like ‘walking cultural museums’ providing the cultural link from generation to generation. Ayachitham Sridhar, Chairman, Telangana Grandhalaya Parishad and Nandini Sidda Reddy, Telangana Sahitya Academy Chairman, said the unique art forms of Telangana should be preserved and propagated. Artists from various Telangana districts regaled the gathering by presenting about 20 art forms.
