Several places in Medak district were lashed by thunderstorm in Medak district on Thursday resulting in huge crop losses.

According to sources, gales and thunderstorms were recorded in some villages of Edlaregadi tanda and Ghanapur, levelling fields and standing crops.

Mango and banana fields were completely damaged at Narayanakhed, Regod and Veldurthi mandals. Electric polls and trees were uprooted at several places. Tin roof tops of several houses were blown away. Crop damage was assessed in hundreds of acres. However complete details were yet to reach the headquarters. Mirdoddi registered 40.2 mm rainfall followed by Medak with 30 mm.

The sources said that a woman and her two children were injured in a house collapse at Rudraram village in Narayanakhed mandal.

Meanwhile, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said that the State Government will extend the required assistance to the farming community who incurred huge loss during the recent hailstorms. Mr. Rao visited the damaged fields of farmers at Baddipadaga and Peddannapet villages in Nanganoor mandal on Thursday and interacted with farmers.

Stating that farmers who lost more than 33 per cent crop due to hailstorm will get Rs. 5,400 per acre for paddy, and Rs. 6,800 per acre for horticulture crops, he said that the assistance would be extended to them very shortly. The Minister directed the officials to assess the crop loss immediately and send reports to district officials for further processing.

Meanwhile, the Minister formally commenced Mission Kakatiya works at Raghavapur at an estimated cost of Rs. 42.21 lakh.

Nalgonda Staff Reporter writes: Parts of the district witnessed heavy to moderate rains here on Thursday. A woman was struck dead by lighting near Huzurnagar. Standing crops, orchards and harvested paddy brought to procurement centres across the district was damaged due to the untimely rains. Huzuranagar, Kodad, Chandur, Munugode, Marriguda and several mandals received rains on Thursday evening.
