Fourteen foreigners were detained by the Hyderabad police on Wednesday with charges of overstaying in the country without the permission of the Government.
Five of them were from Sudan, four from Yemen, two from Somalia, two from Kenya and one from Tanzania. They were caught after surprise inspections at Golconda, Humayunnagar, Asifnagar, Langerhouz, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Osmania University surrounding localities and Malakpet.
Fifteen teams of Hyderabad Police Commissioner's Task Force inspected their houses. “After finding their visas and other travel documents, we found they were overstaying,” TF DCP B. Limba Reddy said.
“Most of them came to India on student visas. House owners and others who rent out their properties or provide accommodation to foreigners will have to inform details of the residing foreigners to the local Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
“They should create an account with the FRRO website and inform about the stay of foreigners in their house and furnish details online by filling C-Form module,” Mr. Reddy explained. This was mandatory under section 7(3) and 7(4) of the Foreigners Act-1946.
Violation of the provisions of the Act was punishable with imprisonment.
