Forcible removal of huts creates tension

May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - MAHABUBABAD (WARANGAL DT.):

Tension prevailed in the town for a while as the police and revenue officials forcibly removed the huts in Signal Colony here on Saturday.

About 600 poor families erected huts on the four acre land which belonged to the government.

Tehsildar S. Mallaiah and revenue employees went along with the CIs Nandiram Naik and Malla Reddy with 70 constables to clear the land from unauthorised occupation by the people.

The removal of huts continued till late evening even as the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) workers tried to obstruct the revenue and policemen. The officials removed the huts and set the debris on fire.

MRPS leader G. Peeraiah condemned the act. He said the officials targetted the landless poor and ignored the rich who occupy lands. Meanwhile, no cases were booked.
