Fishermen attacked

Seven fishermen belonging to Nambiyar Nagar in Nagapattinam were allegedly attacked by a group of Sri Lankan fishermen while fishing off Point Calimere coast on Friday night.

The Nagapattinam fishermen had ventured into the sea on a fibre boat owned by S. Manickavel (45). When they were preparing to return to the shore with the catch, a group of Sri Lankan fishermen threw stones on them.

A few of the Sri Lankans got onto the Indian boat and attacked the fishermen with wooden logs.

Besides the catch, they also took away the GPS instrument .

Manickavel and M. Devendran (38) were admitted to the Nagapattinam GH.
