Participation of mentally challenged children in cultural programmes and also in different trades of vocation at the Sneha Society for Rural Reconstruction at Gayatri Nagar made everyone spellbound, here on Monday.
The children sang and danced to the tunes of cinema, devotional and patriotic numbers. They also took part in the sports and games and in phenyl making. These programmes were organised by the society in connection with the World Mental Disorder Day.
Attending as the chief guest, local MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta described the children as equal to God and therefore elders in the society should treat them with love and affection. Though the children suffering look innocent, they have the talent and interest in the field of their choice. Hence, trainers of spastics children need to bring out their talent, he felt.
Mayor Akula Lalitha congratulated the children and praised the efforts of the Sneha Society in providing them vocational training and also shelter free of cost. The dignitaries promised to use their offices to ensure assistance from the government.
Society chairman Sidhaiah welcomed them and presented the annual report.
