Defeat power-hungry TRS: Raghavulu

April 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KHAMMAM:

CPI (M) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu has urged people of Palair Assembly constituency to vote for the CPI(M) candidate P. Sudarshan Rao in the ensuing Palair bypoll to trounce “power hungry” TRS and save democracy.

He was addressing a public meeting held here on Thursday in connection with the filing of nomination papers by Mr Sudarshan, the party district secretary. Party State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, CPI senior leaders Puvvada Nageswara Rao, former MLA K. Sambasiva Rao, and the representatives of SUCI, MCPI, Forward Block and RSP were among those present.

The ruling TRS is considering the Palair by-election, which was necessitated following the death of Congress sitting MLA R. Venkat Reddy, as an opportunity to increase the tally of its legislators, Mr Raghavulu said, alleging that the announcement of the candidature of Minister for Roads and Buildings T. Nageswara Rao by the ruling party ahead of all other parties was a clear pointer to this. It has added 22 MLAs to its kitty from other parties by engineering defections to wipe out Opposition in Telangana, he charged, adding that the Congress has become vulnerable to defections and incompetent to play the role of the responsible main Opposition party in the State.

The CPI (M) and other Left parties alone have the commitment and calibre to safeguard the interests of poor and downtrodden sections, he affirmed, reiterating his appeal to voters of Palair constituency to elect the CPI (M) candidate, backed by the CPI and several other Left parties, to make their voice heard inside and outside the Assembly.
