CPI national executive committee member K. Narayana said his party will launch an intensive agitation if the State government fails to restrain the Forest Department personnel from allegedly trying to take possession of lands being tilled by farmers for many years in several parts of the district.

He was speaking to newsmen after visiting Tummalapalli in Konijerla mandal, where tension broke out when a group of villagers protested the reported attempt by the forest staff to fix boundaries of some land in the village on Monday. The Forest staff allegedly made a vain bid to dig up trenches in an “agricultural land” being cultivated by the local farmers for many years, he charged, alleging that the move amounted to taking unauthorised possession of lands, for which pattas were given to the local farmers by the Revenue Department in the past.

The State government should take stringent action against the errant staff who resorted to such an illegal act detrimental to the interests of not only farmers but to vegetation, he demanded.

“The CPI in association with other Left parties will launch a massive agitation in Khammam if the government pursues anti-farmer and anti-tribal policies,” he warned.

Reiterating that the CPI is committed to reunification of the Left parties, he said, the party national leaders including former general secretary Indrajit Gupta made unconditional proposals to achieve this long cherished goal in the past.

A specific proposal in this regard has been included in the immediate draft agenda of the CPI national conference to be held in Puducherry later this month, he said.

“We are committed to the reunification of all the Left parties including naxalites,” Mr. Narayana asserted. Referring to a specific suggestion made by the CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram for merger of the (Praja Sanghalu) frontal organisations of the Left parties, Mr Narayana said the proposal has to be pursued at the national level.

His approach towards working for the reunification of the Left parties is not correct, Mr Narayana said, stressing that a reciprocal and pragmatic approach was needed to accomplish the common goal.
