Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy has said that the party would launch agitational
programmes demanding that the State government provide “meaningful compensation” to farmers affected in the recent rains and hailstorm.
Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy made a maiden visit to Karimnagar district along with AICC official spokesperson Madhu Yashki Goud on Thursday. Later, he participated in a meeting organised by DCC president K Mruthyunjayam at the party office to review the damage caused to the farming community in the recent rains and hailstorms in Karimnagar district.
Speaking on the occasion, he demanded that the district administration expedite the process of survey of the damages and submit a report to the government.
Alleging that the farmers were suffering a lot due to the neglect by the government, he said that more than 780 farmers have committed suicide in Telangana State. Flaying Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing in Land Acquisition Bill which was detrimental to the interests of the farmers and encourages only the corporate sectors, he found fault with the TRS government for supporting the bill. Launching a scathing attack on the TRS government for failing to provide water and power to the farming community, he charged the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao with resorting to dialogues and cheap politics of defections. Finding fault with the State government for the passage of water grid bill, he said that the government would take up the grid works without the consent of farmers and pays only 10 per cent of compensation and does not allow farmers to grow trees along the pipelines.
Jagtial legislator T Jeevan Reddy flayed the government for not declaring drought in the State. Former Minister D Sridhar Babu demanded that the government should provide compensation to the farmers for declaring crop holiday.
Earlier, the Congress leaders have accorded a rousing reception to TPCC president. Kalwakurthy legislator Vamshichand Reddy, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, former ZP chairman A Laxman Kumar and others were also present.
