Congress leaders arrested

Protest held to disrupt ceremony for housing scheme

August 08, 2017 08:18 am | Updated 08:18 am IST - NARSAPUR (MEDAK DISTRICT):

Tension prevailed for some time in Narsapur of Medak district when some Congress leaders including District Congress Committee (DCC) V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy tried to gherao Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao. Police arrested the leaders and shifted them to Manoharabad police station. The State government has planned construction of double bed-room houses near Narsapur where the land was reportedly allocated to the beneficiaries for housing by the previous Congress government. However, possession was not given to them at that time. In the past the Congress leaders held a protest over this issue.

Again they planned an agitation as Mr. Harish Rao was scheduled to lay foundation for construction of double bed-room houses on Monday. The Congress leaders alleged that while double bed-room houses were planned for only 500 families house sites were allotted to 1,310 families. As the Congress leaders were arrested and the area was cleared, Mr. Harish Rao along with Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy arrived at Narsapur and laid foundation stone for the double bed-room houses. MLA Mr. Madan Reddy was also present.
