District Congress Committee former president Gadugu Gangadhar alleged that the ‘Mission Kakatiya’ has turned into the ‘Commission Kakatiya’.
Contractors threatened
Though the works were allotted through e-bidding, the contractors were being threatened to fulfil the demands of local cadres in the form of commissions, he added.
Some tanks were given to TRS leaders and where the tanks were not allotted to the leaders, the contractors were being threatened for commissions and percentages, he said, while addressing a press conference here on Saturday.
‘Congress completed irrigation schemes’
Referring to Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao’s criticism on the Congress, he said it was the Congress government which completed Ali Sagar and Gutpa Lift Irrigation schemes and ensured the supply of water to tail-end ayacut of Nizam Sagar reservoir in Balkonda, Bodhan, Nizamabad and Armoor constituencies.
Removal of silt in irrigation tanks was not a new scheme as claimed by the TRS as the previous governments too did such works and renovated tanks earlier.
Even after tenders were finalised, works under the Mission Kakatiya were either not launched or going on at a snail’s pace, said the senior Congress leader.
Mr. Gangadhar advised the TRS leaders to desist from making baseless allegations against the Congress and instead concentrate on the execution of works for the benefit of farmers.
