Cong. slams TRS for ‘unilateral decision’

Party’s decision to constitute Committee on Rules single-handedly irks Jana. In a related development, the Committee on Rules is likely to hold its sitting in the next few days to take a look at the existing rules.

Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy on Wednesday dashed off a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao protesting the unilateral decision in constituting the Committee on Rules.

Sources said Mr. Reddy was irked after he came to know that the TRS had constituted the panel by including N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and P. Kishta Reddy as members from the Congress. The panel is chaired by Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary.

It is understood that he reminded the Chief Minster that it was a tradition to consult the Opposition parties, particularly the Leader of Opposition, while constituting an important committee. He is said to have asked the Chief Minister to replace Mr. Kishta Reddy with CLP secretary Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

In a related development, the Committee on Rules is likely to hold its sitting in the next few days to take a look at the existing rules.

Sources said until the Telangana Legislature framed its own rules, the AP Legislative Assembly rules and procedures would be followed. “Presently, the Legislative Assembly is functioning as per the transitory provision incorporated in the AP State Reorganisation Act 2014,” sources said.

It was pointed out that once the committee examines the existing rules and procedures, it would prepare a report and table it in the House for approval.
