Competitions in various events such as dances, instrumental and classical music were conducted for children aged between 5 and 16 years for Balasoorya and Balaratna Awards at the Bal Bhavan here on Thursday.

Children from Adilabad and Nizamabad districts took part in the day-long competitions held under the supervision of Bal Bhavan in-charge V. Prabhakar. District Educational Officer K. Srinivasa Chary earlier in the day declared the competitions open at the premises.

Those who performed well in the primary-level competitions would be sent to State-level competitions to be held at Jawahar Bal Bhavan in Hyderabad. The Balaratna Award will be given to children above 5 years of age and below 16 years in each event, while the Balasoorya would be conferred on to children below 5 years.

Children who received award once in one field are not supposed to take part again, said Mr. Prabhakar.
