Closure of government schools opposed

May 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

Telangana Rashtra Teachers Federation (TRTF) State general secretary Yellala Laxma Reddy has urged the State government to withdraw its proposal to close down the government primary and upper primary schools on the pretext of poor enrolment of students.

Participating in the TRTF district council meeting in Karimnagar town on Sunday, he said that the closure of government schools would prove detrimental for poor students who would be denied a chance at getting educated. He added that the closure of government schools would distance the girls from education in the rural areas. He also found fault with the government reducing maths period for students of class 6 and 7, and demanded at least 10 periods a week for improving the standards of students.

Transfers

With regards to the issuance of G.O. number 182 dated May 21 on the transfer of government employees, he said that the order should be implemented for teachers as well and allow inter-district transfers. He urged the government to issue orders for the transfer and promotion of teachers during this summer vacation itself.

New office bearers

In the meeting, M. Prathap Reddy and A. Rajaiah were elected as the TRTF district president and general secretary. The other office bearers who were elected include associate president A. Venkataramana, vice-presidents K. Ravi Kumar and K. Malla Reddy, additional secretary R. Ramana Reddy, and secretaries V. Ravinder, K. Ramesh, P. Jyothi, L. Shanthamma and J. Narasimha Swamy.
