AICC secretary and Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao has flayed the Union and State governments for neglecting the plight of the farming community.

The AICC secretary was in Karimnagar district on Saturday and toured the Gambhiraopeta, Yellareddypet and Sircilla mandals to console the farmers affected in the recent rains and hailstorm.

Talking to newsmen, he alleged that the State government had neglected the farmers affected in the recent rains in providing compensation.

Stating that the Congress would provide financial assistance to the farmers affected in the rains, he had announced Rs.1 lakh as his contribution for the farmers and called upon the Congress leaders to donate for the welfare of the farming community. He also launched a scathing attack against the BJP government for bringing Land Acquisition Act, which was detrimental in the interests of farmers.

He also said that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi would tour the Telangana State tentatively on May 10 or 11, which would be finalised later, to console the farmers affected due to neglect of the ruling parties.

Jagtial legislator T. Jeevan Reddy alleged that the TRS government was more concerned about the celebrations and organising feasts neglecting the plight of the farmers affected in the recent rains.

He ridiculed the Ministers for not even conducting a review meeting on the recent rains and hailstorms, which had caused serious loss to the farming community.

Former Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar flayed BJP leader Kishan Reddy for stating that the farmers would obstruct Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Telangana State.
