CBI officials on Tuesday filed a petition in a local court here on Tuesday seeking cancellation of the bail issued to opposition leader in Andhra Pradesh and YSRCP MLA Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in quid pro quo case.

Attempts to influence prosecution witnesses and violation of bail conditions were cited as the grounds for cancellation of the bail. The CBI authorities stated in the petition that the accused Jaganmohan Reddy had consciously flouted the bail conditions by publishing and telecasting an interview of retired IAS officer P. Ramakanth Reddy — who was one of the prosecution witnesses — through a Telugu daily and TV channel controlled by him.

The investigators recalled that the court had laid down conditions while granting bail to Mr. Reddy in September, 2013. One of them was that the accused should not directly or indirectly make any inducement, threat or promise to any person acquainted with the facts of the case. The CBI had the liberty to seek cancellation of the bail if the accused violated any of the bail conditions, the CBI officials stated in the petition.

They said the retired IAS officer was examined as witness in two cases involving Mr. Reddy. Mr. Ramakanth Reddy had pointed out, during his examination, that irregularities were committed while processing some files related to Vanpic and Indu Tech zone. Recently, Jagathi publications — through its Saakshi TV channel and newspaper published and telecast Mr. Ramakanth Reddy’s interview in which he spoke about the quality of investigation.
