The Jagtial district administration, which had launched a special campaign for achieving cent per cent construction of household sanitary latrines (HSL), has decided to launch another campaign to tap each and every drop of rainwater by constructing soak-pits at each household and farm ponds in the fields.

At a meeting with the officials in Jagtial town on Saturday, Collector A. Sharath said that they had set a target of constructing 30,000 farm ponds in the district covering all the mandals under the Jalanidhi programme. Special focus would be laid on the upland mandals of Kathalapur, Kodimial, Medipall and Mallial for construction of farm ponds by motivating farmers to recharge the ground water and ensure water in the pond.

The Collector asked the field officials to motivate the farmers to construct farm ponds in their fields by conducting a survey. The officials should also educate the villagers to construct soak-pits in each house to see that each drop of rainwater is tapped. The month of May is the ideal time to take up farm ponds and soak-pits so that rain water could be tapped with the arrival of monsoon. Metpally Sub-Collector Musharaf Farooqui and others were present.
