Warangal police on Wednesday afternoon handed over the bodies of four slain undertrials including Vikaruddin to their family members after post- mortem at the MGM Hospital at Warangal.
Amid tight security outside the MGM Hospital mortuary, the post-mortem of the five undertrials, who were gunned down on the Warangal-Nalgonda District border, began at 10 a.m. A team of 12 medical personnel including four doctors headed by Kakatiya Medical College Forensic Department head Raju carried out post-mortem.
Post-mortem was carried out as per the NHRC guidelines by videographing the entire procedure. Warangal Range Deputy Inspector General B. Malla Reddy and Superintendent of Police A.K. Jha supervised the process.
The bodies of Afsar and Hanif were handed over to their families first. The mortal remains were put in two separate vehicles and sent to Hyderabad. But, when the bodies of Vikaruddin and Syed Amjad were given to the family members, heavy police bandobust was arranged. The bodies were shifted to two ambulances and escorted to Hyderabad by police personnel. Mediapersons were not allowed into the hospital.
Sources said that arrangements were made to hand over the bodies of all barring Izhar Khan, resident of Lucknow. His relatives are expected to come on Thursday to take the body and till such time, the mortal remains would be kept in the mortuary.
Earlier, Nusrat Bano, wife of Hanif and his uncle Abdul Latif had arrived at the main gate of the hospital to take possession of the body. As the media persons rushed to meet them and take their version, police whisked them away.
‘It’s a murder’
Mr. Latif, however, told reporters that Hanif along with others, were gunned down in a ‘fake encounter’. “It is a clear case of murder. We demand justice and action against the police personnel involved in shooting down unarmed persons,” he said.
The roads leading to MGM Hospital were sealed from all sides as the police put up barricades. Unprecedented bandobust was made to prevent any untoward incidents.
JAC wants CBI probe
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad the Joint Action Committee of various socio-religious organisations have demanded a CBI inquiry or an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into Tuesday's encounter.
The JAC which met under the presidentship of Abdul Raheem Qureshi here on Wednesday resolved to meet Chief Minister K.Chanrasekhar Rao and the Governor E.S..L.Narasimhan to represent what they termed as 'cold-blooded' murder of the Muslim youth. “The police can not be the judge and jury”, said Majlis president, Asaduddin Owaisi.
The JAC also condemned the killing of four policemen in Suryapet and the encounter of sandalwood smugglers in Andhra Pradesh.
