Telangana has held Andhra Pradesh responsible for the possibility of students facing separate Eamcet exams by declaring the schedule unilaterally.
Telangana Minister for Education G. Jagadish Reddy called on Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Friday and explained to him the stand taken by the State government to conduct Eamcet on its own. He also apprised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao the details of his meeting with the Governor.
Speaking to the media, Mr Reddy said the Governor had said that he would not mind the two States conducting separate Eamcet, but suggested that it should be held without any bad blood between the two States.
It was AP that had shown over-enthusiasm by announcing the Eamcet schedule unilaterally, ignoring the fact that the State Council of High Education (SCHE) would go to Telangana as per the AP Reorganisation Act as it was headquartered in Hyderabad. Thus the right of holding Eamcet would also belong to Telangana, Mr. Jagadish Reddy said.
“However, AP that has the habit of flouting norms (GOs) for its convenience, has showed its high-handedness in announcing the Eamcet schedule without consulting Telangana. Now, it’s for AP to approach us, as suggested in the Reorganisation Act, for conduct of the joint-Eamcet. We will conduct the test for the two States if they want us to do so”, the minister said.
He made it clear that AP students have to appear for Eamcet to be conducted by Telangana, if they want admissions in colleges located here. They would have to vie for 15 per cent open quota seats as had been the practice so far.
Now, there is no confusion over Eamcet for students and the Telangana government had every right to conduct the exam for its students, the minister noted.
