Leaders of the BJP State unit alleged that the response from the State government to serious drought conditions was completely disappointing and disgusting.

“We visited Kuppanagar in Jarasangam mandal of Medak district today and the people told us that they are being supplied drinking water once a week. They are being forced to drink polluted water from a borewell, as eight out of the 10 borewells have dried up in the village,” said BJP leaders Y. Laksminarayana, G. Premender Reddy and N. Anjaneyulu, while speaking to reporters here on Wedensday.

'Centre has released Rs. 450 crore'

“Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has pointed out that the Centre has not been releasing funds. But the Centre has released Rs. 450 crore and the amount is not reaching the ground level,” said Mr. Premender Reddy.

“The Centre has also increased the number of days for wage under NREGS from 100 days to 150 days, and the scheme is not being linked to ongoing schemes like Mission Kakatiya. Why is the government not acting properly?” he asked.

BJP district unit president K Butchi Reddy, secretary Chandrasekhar and others were present.

Khammam Staff Reporter adds: Activists of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) district committee staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate on Wednesday demanding declaration of all mandals in the district as drought-hit and emergency steps to offset the impact of drought.

They raised slogans demanding compensation to drought-affected farmers.
