BJP criticises KCR for praising Nizam

January 04, 2015 10:34 am | Updated 10:34 am IST - Hyderabad:

The fulsome praise of the 7 Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, and his rule by the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, came in for severe criticism from the BJP. It amounted to heaping insult on the people who laid down their lives and revolted against the despotic reign of the Nizam.

“Will Chief Minister seek discontinuance of the pension given to those who fought against the Nizam” asked BJP Telangana president G. Kishan Reddy.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, he went hammer and tongs against KCR and said his frequent praise of the Nizam was a slur on Doddi Kumariah, Chakala Ilamma, Vandematram Ramchander Rao, Shoebullah Khan who sacrificed their lives protesting against the autocratic rule of the erstwhile rulers.

People were subjected to untold miseries and the Hindu women were stripped and forced to play Batkumma by the private army of the Nizam. “Does KCR uphold all this,” the BJP chief asked.

He criticised the Chief Minister for hailing development during the Nizam rule and asked whether development did not take place in the reign of Mysuru Raja and Gawalior Raja?

KCR was indulging in praise of the Nizam just to gain the support of the Majlis and with an eye on the GHMC polls.

‘No such tactic will work’

A large number of Muslims were against the rule of Nizam and they wouldn’t approve of such tactics. Moreover, people of Telangana had given an absolute mandate to the TRS and the Chief Minister need not stoop to such levels, Mr. Kishan Reddy said.
