The district administration has embarked upon a plan to develop the precincts of the historic Padmakshi Temple into a major tourist attraction here.
Central scheme
A sum of Rs.3 crore was recently allocated for the plan under the Hriday scheme of the Central Government.
“We will build a heritage museum at the Padmkashi Temple as per the guidelines of the scheme. It will showcase the art and architecture of the Kakatiya rulers, and will be a must-see spot for tourists from various parts of the globe,” District Collector Vakati Karuna told The Hindu .
Water channels
As per the plan, the tank at the foot of the hill would be revived and rainwater channels leading to it reopened. Beautiful ghats would be built for tourists to saunter around.
Destination on Dasara
Every year, lakhs of women gather at the temple to celebrate the Bathukamma festival during Dasara.
Keeping in view the number of visitors and to facilitate celebrations in a fitting manner, more infrastructure and facilities would be put in place here.
Besides the tank, a museum that would feature the art and architecture of the Kakatiya rulers would also come up. The numerous exquisite idols that the district is home to would be put together at one place as part of the plan.
Sprucing up hilltop
The district administration is contemplating opening up the hilltop, which is now abandoned. It was also decided to have a laser show and a restaurant at the top. “One could have a beautiful view of Hanamkonda from atop the Padmakshi hillocks,” Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) planning officer A. Ajith Reddy said.
According to the Collector, there was also a proposal to set up a 1.7-km-long ropeway connecting the historic temples of Padmakshi and Bhadrakali.
