May 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:44 am IST - WARANGAL:

Police foiled an attempt by Communist Party of India (Maoist) members to eliminate some select people branding them as police informers. The police also took into custody one naxalite late on Tuesday night at Ramannagudem in the district.

The CPI Maoist Party Eturunagaram - Mahadevpur area committee member and commander of action team Kummari Sadavalaiah alias Madhu was arrested while his two associates Vinod and Rakesh escaped in the dark, firing at the police party near Ramannagudem agricultural market office. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ambar Kishore Jha announcing the arrest of the naxalite said that they did not return the fire.

The police nabbed one of the escaping naxals and could recover one 0.9 mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition and a knife from him.

Active since 2011

Madhu hails from Buttaigudem village of Eturunagaram mandal and had joined the Maoist party in 2011.

He was involved in the November, 2011 firing on police party at Chinnaboinapalli, another incident of firing on police in 2012 at Kommugudam in Gundala mandal of Khammam district. He was also involved in the exchange of fire with police in 2013 in Chhattisgarh and one at Kambalapet in Bhupalapatnam in 2014.

He carried a reward of Rs.1 lakh on his head.

Madhu was accused of killing one Raghavulu in 2012 at Pankena village in Karimangar district. He was working under the instructions of Karimnagar - Khammam - Warangal (KKW) Maoist party secretary Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar and came to Eturunagaram with a plan to eliminate some persons.

Friendly police

The SP said Damodar and Madhu had been creating law and order problem in the agency area for quite some time and the arrest was very important for the police.

Unlike in the past, police had been adopting `friendly police’ concept and hence did not open fire at the naxals. “Risking lives, our personnel tried to arrest all the three naxals.

Two could escape under the cover of darkness,” he said.

Mr. Jha appealed to the underground cadre to give up arms and join the mainstream and utilise the rehabilitation package being offered by the Telangana Government.
