Public sector giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) will construct two thermal power generating stations for the Telangana State Generation Corporation (TSGENCO) at Kothagudem and Manuguru in the next three years.
The government will soon enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state-owned company, for augmentation of capacities to the extent of 800 MW and 1080 MW respectively at both locations.
The decision was formally announced after the Chairman and Managing Director of BHEL B.P.Rao, along with his other colleagues, called on the Chief Minster K.Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday, and held deliberations.
The projects at both sites will be taken up on EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) basis. Mr.B.P.Rao has assured the Chief Minister of finishing the execution of four units, each of 270 MW, at Manuguru within the next 24 months, and the rest within three years, the CMO informed.
Government will provide land and water for the plants. Close to 700 acres in Kothagudem and 900 acres in Manuguru will be allotted for this purpose, senior officials from TSGENCO informed. Proximity to railway lines and the Godavari is seen as an advantage at these locations.
Project cost for both stations could be about Rs.11,000 crore, out of which BHEL’s portion would be approximately Rs.9,000 crore, senior officials informed. However, negotiations are still on for arriving at final cost.
BHEL had set up the existing capacities at KTPS and RTPP, for the erstwhile APGENCO.
The Chief Minister has directed the CMD of TSGENCO D.Prabhakara Rao to entrust the remaining projects also to BHEL through MoU if necessary, to ensure generation of 6,000 MW in the next three years. Execution should be time-bound and targeted, he said.
