The Sri Rama Maha Pattabhisheka Mahotsavam – the coronation ceremony of Lord Rama – was performed on a majestic scale in this temple town on Sunday.

The impressive ceremony, featuring a host of spectacular events that included the kirita dharana (adorning Lord Rama with a glittering crown), lasted for a little over two hours.

Scores of devotees watched the grand ceremony held in a spiritually charged atmosphere at the Mithila Stadium that adjoins the historical Sri Sitramachandra Swamy Temple.

Priests performed ceremonial rituals extolling Lord Rama, even as the devotees watched the mega religious event with reverence. They adorned the utsav idol of Lord Rama with raja mudrika , raja dhandam and chatram .

Later in the day, a rathotsavam was conducted amid religious fervour as part of the ongoing Sri Ramanavami Brahmotsavam.

The Brahmotsavam fete will conclude on April 3.
