Autorickshaw drivers observe one-day bandh

Hundreds of autorickshaws remained off the road in the district headquarters town of Kothagudem and its adjoining coal belt areas on Monday in response to one-day bandh called by the JAC of autorickshaw unions in Kothagudem area in protest against soaring prices of diesel and petrol.

Scores of autorickshaw drivers struck work and took out a rally in the coal town to press their demands, including immediate roll back of fuel prices, bringing petrol and diesel under the Goods and Services Tax regime, reducing the tax burden on autorickshaw owners and setting up of a welfare board for autorickshaw drivers.

CPI State assistant secretary K Sambasiva Rao, party district secretary Sabir Pasha and others took part in the rally expressing solidarity with the autorickshaw drivers and owners.
