Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma has said that assailants, who had opened fire on the police personnel conducting vehicle checking at Suryapet bus stand in Nalgonda district in the wee hours had used country made weapon.

Mr. Sharma, who along with Hyderabad Range IGP Naveenchand and DIG Y. Gangadhar visited Suryapet bus stand on Thursday morning, told reporters that 7.65 mm empty cartridges were found at the scene of the offence. “These cartridges are widely used in North India by Uttar Pradesh and Bihar gangs. We suspect role of one such gang in this incident,” Mr. Sharma said.

Giving details of the incident, the DGP said that Suryapet Inspecor Moghalaiah along with his team had come to the Hi-tech bus stand at 12.30 a.m. on specific input about a dacoit gang travelling in a bus. “They were checking a bus and asked two persons to get down. While they were being questioned, one member took out a weapon and fired at the Inspector and a home guard Kishore. Two others – constable Lingaiah and home guard Mahesh suffered bullet injuries and died on the spot,” he said.

The DGP said that after the incident, the assailants ran on to the National Highway and tried to stop vehicles. They then fired at a vehicle in which an MPTC member Dorababu and his wife from West Godavari District were travelling.

Massive search operation has been launched to nab the culprits, the DGP said.
