President of BJP State unit, G. Kishan Reddy, said that the Union Government would not acquire land from farmers for any private industries or organisations and that it can be taken only for government programmes. He said that the amendments being made for the land acquisition bill are intended to benefit farming community by offering them four times of the market cost and opposition Congress is trying to stall the bill.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday after laying foundation for the construction of party office at Kandi, Mr. Kishan said that Congress vice- president has no moral right to speak on behalf of farmers as thousands of farmers committed suicide during the rule of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

“Had the Congress government in the past not forced eviction of 16 villages for special economic zone (SEZ) at Kakinada? Had it not handed over one lakh acres at Byyaram for private parties?” he asked and dared Rahul Gandhi to explain.

Claiming that the BJP has emerged as single biggest political party in the world by recruiting more than 11 crore members, he said that the membership drive would continue for three more months and later the committees at various levels would be elected. He said that beginning from Friday, Samparak Abhiyan will start, which is aimed at meeting all the members and collecting their data like address, occupation and hobbies.

He said that people are in favour of the party in Telangana and the recent Council elections prove it. He said that a meeting of party leaders would be held in Hyderabad on May 4, and that party national president Amit Shah is all focused on Telangana.

BJP district unit president K. Buhci Reddy, former MLAs T. Jayaprakash Reddy, K. Satyanarayana, party State secretary G. Premender Reddy and others were present.
